Plexi-kiln highlights the ironies of digitally fabricating a micro-version of a noborigama, a massive Japanese climbing kiln that fills the space left in a hillside by the removal of  materials for its construction. The portable, replicable, and “unnatural” miniature raises questions about technology, material, and our transitional moment in ceramic history. The translucent walls shed light on the kiln’s dark interior, making visible the interiority of the transformative process.
